The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated rainfall in the low and mid hills, as well as snow in many high-altitude areas of Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul, and Spiti districts on Friday. Dry weather is expected on New Year’s Eve, December 31st.

Himachal Pradesh is currently experiencing a surge in tourist numbers as thousands have gathered at popular destinations to celebrate the New Year, resulting in severe traffic congestion. Traffic jams were observed at both the north and south entrances of the Atal tunnel, with approximately 100 vehicles stranded near the north portal. The district administration has deployed police to manage the traffic, as reported by ANI.

Snowfall on Thursday in renowned tourist spots such as Kufri, Manali, and Narkanda brought joy to visitors who had come to welcome the New Year.

The sky remained heavily overcast, and strong, icy winds added to the cold, even with people bundled up in heavy winter clothing. The Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra, Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur, Rohtang, Kunzam, Chansel passes, and Darcha experienced moderate snowfall, intensifying the already harsh cold wave in the nearby valleys.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has instructed officials to make comprehensive arrangements to facilitate tourists visiting the state. He has also urged tourists to adhere to Covid-19 protocols and wear face masks as a precautionary measure.
